THE FELICITY STATION

DEDICATION

For the Carers, the Ambos & the Cleaners

Some people do more than care for the body. They care for the person left standing. This page is for the people who did exactly that — for Felicity, and for me.

For the Carers, the Ambos and the Cleaners — a Felicity Station tribute

I could not have made it this far without the people who stepped into the hardest days of our lives and simply helped. Dave’s Cleaning Servicing helped me clean up Wandana Cottage and move my things out when I was trying to carry far more than boxes. He worked for very little when, in my eyes, the help he gave was worth so much more. That kindness mattered. It made the next step possible when even ordinary jobs felt enormous.

Kirsty, Julie, and the people at Jacaranda Living Support worked tirelessly to care for Felicity. Their care did not stop at the edge of a roster or a form. They came to her in hospital. They stayed close through the hardest atmosphere, and even after Felicity had passed, the care they had shown did not suddenly disappear. Some people do a job. Some people become part of the story of how another human being was loved.

Then there were the ambos. So many ambulance officers and paramedics came through our lives, and when so many of them came in uniform it brought even more tears to my eyes. Ambulance Victoria and St John were represented by people who carried professionalism, compassion and humanity with them. They did not just move a patient from one place to another. They helped carry us through frightening moments when we needed calm hands and steady voices.

I also want to thank the people at University Hospital Geelong and, especially, the wonderful nurses and staff of the dialysis unit. They saw Felicity through difficult days again and again. Healthcare can become appointments, machines, charts and routines when you look at it from the outside. From where I stood, it was human beings showing up for another human being.

This dedication exists because all of you helped make it possible for me to still be here, still creating, and still turning what happened into something that can carry Felicity’s name forward. I cannot repay every act of kindness. What I can do is remember it. I can put it into the signal. I can put it into a song.

The song below is my thank-you to the people whose care went beyond what could ever fit neatly on an invoice, a roster or a form. It is about the carers who stayed, the people who helped carry the practical burden, and the ones who saw that grief leaves another person standing in the room who may need care too.

They helped turn sorrow into service. Every time I make another piece of music, build another part of this station, or find another reason to keep going, some part of that kindness travels with it. Some names deserve a chorus. Some hands deserve a light. Some hearts become part of the reason we make it through the night.

FOR THE CARERS — LYRICS

Some people do more than care for the body.

They care for the person left standing.

I would not have made it this far without Julia and Kirsty near.

They cared for my Felicity through the hardest atmosphere.

Then when my world went silent and the house felt strange and wide,

they became my unpaid carers, just by standing at my side.

Not washing me or feeding me, not the things the forms define.

They cared enough to see me when I nearly lost my shine.

For the carers who stayed when others turned away.

For the carers who brought kindness to the day when the shade came down around me.

You helped me still stand true.

The Felicity Station will sing eternity for you.

For the carers with their hearts so strong and clear,

thank you for the love that helped me make it here.

They helped turn sorrow into service.

We saw the love she gave, and every act of kindness became a song I had to sing.

Now every note that arises, every dance beneath the stars, will carry all the carers.

Some names deserve a chorus, some hands deserve a light,

some hearts become the reason we make it through the night.

Julia Kirsty, thank you for the care no invoice knew,

for the comfort and the courage, for the human thing you do.

The station remembers, the station sings.

For the carers who stayed when others turned away.

For the carers who brought kindness to the day,

when the shade came down around me, you helped me still stand true.

The Felicity Station will sing eternity for you.

For the carers with their hearts so strong and clear,

thank you for the love that helped me make it here.

I honor Felicity in music, and the ones who helped us through,

the carers and the helpers, the faithful and the true.

When the world was hard.

Hard to carry, you made the burden light.

The Felicity Station sing your kindness through the night.

The Felicity Station sing.

To every carer, ambo, cleaner, nurse, support worker, hospital worker and helper who stood beside us: thank you. The station remembers.

The Felicity Station is where the signal, the land, the journey, and the people meet.

A beautiful thank-you to people whose work is often noticed most when somebody desperately needs it. The personal gratitude comes through clearly.
